Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque drive Charles Leclerc battled his way back up to fifth place in the 2022 Belgian Grand Prix after being forced into an early pit stop by a visor tear-off from Max Verstappen getting stuck in his brake duct. In the press conference, Max Verstappen talked about the first lap and how hectic it was with drivers running off and joining back on track:
“So much dirt, I pulled off my tear-off because I barely could see anything.”
Where you aware that Charles was forced to pit due to a visor tear-off getting stuck in his brakes?
Max Verstappen: “Carlos told me it was a tear-off, I didn‘t know. I hope it is not mine! But there were a lot of stuff. It is super unlucky when that happens. On a track like this you are taking them off really quickly. And that is the worst nightmare. Unfortunately these things do happen.”
The Dutchman displayed an ominous pace throughout the Spa-Francorchamps race weekend, setting the fastest time in qualifying by six tenths of a second before dropping down the grid because of his power unit penalty, but still taking an easy win on Sunday with an incredible race pace that left the Maranello team far behind:

“If you look at Red Bull, they were on another level, and they found something this weekend that is a bit worrying for us,” said Leclerc, who admitted the championship was “definitely looking extremely difficult now” for Scuderia Ferrari – “For now, we don’t exactly understand [it]. They are still extremely quick in the straights, it looks like they have no downforce, but then they get into the corner and they are as quick as us, or quicker. So it’s a bit worrying.” – Charles Leclerc concluded.
