Charles Leclerc at the Historic French GP
He enjoyed himself during a demonstration lap aboard a historic car, wearing sunglasses and hair blowing in the wind, riding as a passenger with none other than Jean Alesi. Charles Leclerc was undeniably one of the big protagonists of Saturday at the Grand Prix de France Historique, the reenactment of the French GP with vintage single-seaters, taking place this weekend at the Paul Ricard circuit. Afterwards, the Ferrari driver also waved the French flag at the end of the session, celebrating a day of motorsport that attracted many fans to the Le Castellet track, in the hills above the Côte d’Azur and “his” Monte Carlo.
Between the sound of the V10s and the Le Mans dream
It was a celebration where Charles Leclerc also spoke to the microphones of the TV broadcasting the event live on YouTube. An opportunity not so much to talk about current events, but to touch on topics that there is usually no time for during race weekends: surrounded by the super loud engines of a bygone era, the Ferrari driver took advantage of his appearance at the historic GP to express his appreciation for the sound of the cars featured in the event.
“The V10? Yes, the noise,” said Charles Leclerc, “is simply exceptional! The emotion that a V10 or a V12 provides is simply unique. I hope we can return to those engines in Formula 1.” Leclerc also spoke about the dream, never hidden, of one day racing the 24 Hours of Le Mans, perhaps at the wheel of the Ferrari 499P that has won the last two editions of the great classic of the world endurance scene: “Le Mans? Fred Vasseur already looks at me out of the corner of his eye. But it is a dream, and it would be fantastic to race it with my younger brother Arthur and with Antonio Fuoco. So yes, I would very much like to take part,” concluded Charles Leclerc on the Saturday of the Historic French GP.
