Ferrari’s 2025 is a nightmare, but Charles Leclerc defends the team: “We’re working extremely hard. Sorry for the fans”
Charles Leclerc has commented on yet another disappointing result in a disastrous 2025 season for Ferrari, now confirmed to finish fourth in the Constructors’ Championship.
Never in the spotlight
The 2025 Qatar Grand Prix was perhaps one of the most forgettable races of Charles Leclerc’s career. No flashes of brilliance, no daring moves – largely because this SF-25 simply doesn’t allow them – and practically no camera focus from international broadcast coverage, which understandably concentrated mostly on the title fight. In the quiet of the weekend, the Monegasque crossed the finish line in eighth place, once again the only Ferrari in the points. However, this result was insufficient to keep Maranello in contention for a podium spot in the Constructors’ standings. Ending the season in fourth place represents a significant failure for a team that began the year aiming to fight for the championship.
Apologies to the fans
“Fourth among the Constructors? That hurts me a lot,” Charles Leclerc told Sky Sport F1. “I’m very sorry. It’s not that I like creating false expectations, but in the end, you also have to say what you think. At the start of the year, I genuinely believed we had done good work. The result is that our work wasn’t enough, and we need to do much more to reach our goals. We’re giving everything we have, we’re working extremely hard,” he added, defending his team. “We’ll see how next year goes. I also know that from the moment we saw our pace after the first three or four races, we sacrificed part of the second half of the season to focus on next year’s car, so it’s not a huge surprise that we struggled this season.”
Even fully shifting focus to the 2026 project doesn’t excuse a flop like Ferrari’s performance at Lusail. “You can’t explain a result like this simply because we started developing next year’s car,” Charles Leclerc admitted. “I’m not satisfied with that, and we need answers. But what pains me most is that wherever we go, we have tremendous support, both in good moments and difficult ones, and I know I repeat myself too much when I say our time will come. I’ll keep repeating it because I believe it, but I feel sorry for the fans who always wait and support us.” – the Monegasque driver concluded ahead of the final round of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
With only Abu Dhabi remaining, Ferrari’s 2025 season cannot end soon enough. For Charles Leclerc and the Tifosi, the hope now rests entirely on the promise that every late night in Maranello this winter will finally deliver the car – and the results – they have been waiting for.
