The rule introduced by the FIA starting from the Italian Grand Prix still does not satisfy Charles Leclerc, who finds an ally in Max Verstappen. During the Monza Grand Prix, the FIA intervened in the regulations, introducing a rule that did not receive approval from Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. The Dutch champion, in particular, believes that the introduction of a “minimum time” imposed during qualifying laps is not very useful in solving the problem of on-track traffic.
Unable to slow down to find the right space before the flying lap, drivers now tend to stop in the Pit Lane to distance themselves from the car in front.
This practice has led to the Dutch driver, often the protagonist of actual stops in the fast lane, being called by the stewards.
“I think everything is wrong,” confirmed Max Verstappen – “I don’t know what can be changed, but I don’t see any other point where we can make space. I think the Pit Lane is a safe place, where you go slower. For this reason, the stewards should be more lenient. A driver never wants to start a lap less than three or four seconds behind the driver in front. At the same time, it is difficult to make space on the track. Finding a compromise will not be easy.”

“I have a very similar thought to Max’s,” the Ferrari F1 driver confirmed – “On the one hand, I understand how the new rule has allowed us to get rid of potentially dangerous situations. The last sector of Spa, for example, where the speed differences between cars are enormous. On the other hand, I don’t think it’s the correct solution. We have eliminated some problems to create new ones.” – Charles Leclerc concluded.
