The Italian Grand Prix weekend has just concluded, but for some teams, it’s not yet time to pack up. This is true, first and foremost, for Red Bull and Alpine, both of which are engaged in Pirelli tests at the Monza circuit on Tuesday, September 5th, and Wednesday, September 6th. But it’s also the case for Scuderia Ferrari.
Or rather, the Scuderia will return to Maranello, but the two drivers will soon be back behind the wheel. After a decidedly positive Monza Grand Prix, with Ferrari as the second-strongest force behind Red Bull, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will make a stop at Fiorano. The program includes two days on the track, with the Spanish driver in action on Tuesday, September 5th, and Charles Leclerc taking the wheel on Wednesday, September 6th.
For this occasion, Ferrari’s track, owned by the team, will be flooded. The goal is to test the performance of intermediate compound tires without preheating them with tire warmers.
In other words, it’s a taste of what the FIA intends to impose on all teams for the upcoming Formula 1 season.
The two drivers will have the opportunity to rack up additional kilometers in the car registered for the 2023 championship, the SF-23. This is undoubtedly a useful opportunity, primarily to assess tire behavior in the absence of tire warmers, but also to fine-tune the car’s setup under conditions we’ve witnessed several times this year.
