Spanish journalist Carlos Miquel was the subject of a lot of discussion two weeks ago for his particular reinterpretation of the victory secured by Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc in Austria, accompanied by the engine failure of his Maranello teammate Carlos Sainz.
In an article written after the French Grand Prix last weekend, the editor of Marca pointed out that his editorial that became so popular in Italy was written with “irony” and therefore was not correctly understood, so much so as to “anger a lot of Italian haters for something never said”, being insulted and even quoted “during Sky Italia’s tv commentary in the second free practice session”
Carlos Miquel defended himself by explaining that “he never implied that the breakdown suffered by Carlos Sainz could have been intentional”, but that he was struck by the violence of the explosion and the moment it happened. And in any case he pointed out that “if the Italian colleagues have every right to write that Charles Leclerc must be the first driver, I have the right to argue that Carlos Sainz should not be relegated to second driver at mid-season” – he added.
This was so far the journalist’s version of past events related to Scuderia Ferrari. In his Monday article called “What the controversy hides”, he explained that Ferrari’s problem is not so much “Charles Leclerc versus Carlos Sainz”, but that relating to the reliability of the power unit. In fact, from the columns of the website of the Madrid-based newspaper it is stated that both drivers “should face other engine penalties at least two other times, according to the mileage recorded so far. And in the worst case they could even take three penalties, with as many starts from the bottom of the grid” – Carlos Miquel then explained that in Spa-Francorchamps after the summer break, on August 28, the next penalty for Charles Leclerc is expected.
