The home race for Charles Leclerc is approaching, on the streets he knows like the back of his hand. As the weekend draws near, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have tried out the Monaco track on the Ferrari simulator, but not in the usual way.
Formula 1 moves from Imola to Monaco for the Monaco Principality race, one of the most glamorous stops of the championship. The world’s most famous city circuit has been on the calendar for a long time and poses a great challenge for the drivers. Here, concentration and learning the track are key to succeeding in qualifying, something that Sainz and Leclerc managed while testing Monaco on the simulator.
This session becomes the most important of the weekend, as the Monaco track is renowned for the difficulty of overtaking. The only opportunities arise in case of a safety car or change in weather conditions. We haven’t mentioned tire degradation because on the Monaco track the degradation is very low and mainly limited to the rear axle. This is because it is precisely the rear that is most stressed during race laps with various restarts.
A highly complex track full of iconic corners in the history of Formula 1, one of which is the hairpin, also known as the “hairpin.” However, we must also mention other corners that have made automotive history, including Saint Devote, Anthony Noghes, Rascasse, Massenet, and many others. Over the course of the weekend, we are used to seeing the circuit lap that climbs up towards the Casino and then descends to Portier to enter the tunnel and then continue towards the pools. However, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz wanted to try something different, driving around Monaco in the opposite direction. A track that transforms and could also open up some overtaking points, according to Carlos Sainz.
In the video, released directly by Ferrari’s official Youtube account, Charles Leclerc is at the wheel of the simulator, and he admitted to having tried it once in his home simulator. During the lap, the Monegasque driver seems very comfortable handling the track, especially in the very early stages. However, at one point a difficulty arises, specifically at the port chicane, where he nearly touches the guardrail on exit.
