Leclerc: “Going on holiday after two weekends like this would be depressing, but I have little hope for Abu Dhabi”
“On one hand, I can’t wait for the season to finally be over, but on the other, I’m looking forward to getting to Abu Dhabi to finish the year in a more positive way.” After seven seasons in red, Charles Leclerc has learned not to let setbacks crush him and to keep his focus firmly on what lies ahead. The Monegasque driver continues to give some of the best years of his career to Ferrari, and he still hopes that one day Maranello will reward that loyalty with a car capable of fighting for wins and championships. For him, the next campaign will be absolutely crucial, and Charles Leclerc openly hopes to finally have a Ferrari that can compete at the top.
Speaking about Abu Dhabi, Charles Leclerc insists he has not given up: “It would be pretty depressing to go on holiday after two weekends like this, so I hope we can have a better weekend.” Last year, he worked his way from nineteenth on the grid to finish third at Yas Marina, but even that remarkable performance wasn’t enough to steal the Constructors’ Championship away from McLaren.
Realistic targets
After Las Vegas, team principal Frédéric Vasseur explained that Ferrari’s ambition was to fight for victory between Lusail and Abu Dhabi. Yet Charles Leclerc is keeping his expectations in check: “I want to do everything possible to try to get on the podium one last time this year. Aiming for the win would be pretty unrealistic, but I really hope for a podium. But to be honest, after a weekend like this, I have very little hope…” – the Monegasque driver admitted.
For a driver who has given everything to Maranello, that would be a bitterly tough pill to swallow before the most important winter of his career begins.
