There was clear bitterness in Charles Leclerc’s words at the end of the Canadian GP, as he did not hide his full frustration with the current situation at Ferrari.
It was nothing but frustration for Charles Leclerc at the end of the Canadian GP, which once again saw him deliver a lacklustre performance, partly due to questionable decisions from the Ferrari pit wall. The Monegasque driver had to settle for a fifth-place finish that could hardly be considered satisfying.
The main issue was that his weekend started off on the wrong foot. On Friday in Montreal, he was forced to sit out the practice sessions after making a mistake just 15 minutes into FP1. Saturday didn’t go much better either.
Charles Leclerc’s frustration after the Canadian GP
During qualifying, an error by Isack Hadjar forced him to abort his flying lap, leaving him to start only from eighth place on the grid. However, Ferrari’s number 16 is fully aware of which mistakes were his and which ones were the team’s.
“I was convinced we could do a one-stop, especially in the first part of the race. I saw how Russell was doing and I thought I could push. The degradation on the hard tyres wasn’t high, so one stop would have been fine. This poor result is due to my own mistakes, yesterday’s traffic… it couldn’t have gone much better,” said the driver immediately after the race.
He then spoke about the internal situation at Ferrari and being compared to younger drivers who are already performing better. “I remain calm, but I can’t deny the situation is frustrating. We don’t have the car to win, but it’s not the younger drivers who frustrate me. In the end, my only frustration is with the car, nothing else. I don’t really care about the others.” – the Monegasque driver concluded.
