A decisive year
As already suggested on the eve of the 2026 Formula 1 season, this campaign is expected to be decisive for several key figures within the Ferrari organisation. Starting from team principal Frederic Vasseur and extending to the drivers themselves, including Lewis Hamilton — who endured a very disappointing 2025 season — and Charles Leclerc, who is still waiting for his long-awaited opportunity to fight for the world championship.
Across the first two races of the season, Ferrari has appeared clearly as the second-strongest team on the grid, behind an extremely competitive Mercedes outfit. Nevertheless, there is a sense of cautious optimism at Maranello, with the hope that upcoming upgrades could give the SF-26 a real chance to challenge the Silver Arrows as the championship progresses.
What will Leclerc do?

Throughout last season there were frequent rumours linking Charles Leclerc with a possible move to Aston Martin, the team owned by Lawrence Stroll and strengthened by the arrival of legendary designer Adrian Newey. However, the British team’s disastrous start to the current season certainly does not make it one of the most attractive seats on the Formula 1 grid at the moment.
During an interview with Sky UK, Charles Leclerc was asked how important this championship could be for his future with Ferrari. “It’s important. Driving for Ferrari has always been a dream come true. I’m very focused on this year and I hope to return to the top step of the podium as soon as possible.”
When discussing the possibility of winning the world championship in 2026, Charles Leclerc remained cautious but also sent a message of optimism: “It’s too early to say. I think that, considering the innovations and what I’ve seen in the car, I feel closer than ever — compared to the past with Ferrari — to achieving that goal.” – the Monegasque driver concluded after the Chinese Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc’s renewed confidence therefore highlights the positive trajectory Ferrari has taken at the start of this new era, reinforcing his commitment to bringing a world title back to Maranello.
