No sooner has a disappointing 2020 season come to an end for Ferrari, than the team is giving insight into plans for the 2021 championship. The new car, designated the SF21, will be unveiled ahead of the 3-day pre-season test, as the team seeks to move on from its worst season since 1980.
“It’s a very simple name, because we believe that next year is a transition to 2022,” Mattia Binotto told journalists in a virtual lunch meeting. “So let’s keep SF21 the name of the car. It will be certainly partially a frozen car, same chassis as 2020.”
At the same time, Carlos Sainz spent his first day with Ferrari being given a tourist’s guide to the factory at Maranello. After ending his two-year stint with McLaren, Carlos was unveiled in Ferrari red for the first time on Friday, with his initial duties including meetings with the engineers, a seat fit and lunch with both Binotto and new team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Describing wearing the colours as “pretty special”, Carlos added: “It is a special day for me in general, a day I will never forget.”
“I believe that Charles is incredibly talented. We will work together in the same direction to bring Ferrari back to the top!” – the Spanish driver concluded.
“I am happy to see Carlos in red. With such a talent like him, I am sure we will push each other to the maximum!” – Charles added.
