It certainly cannot be said that this is a lucky period for Carlos Sainz: the Spaniard needed a chassis change for the F1-75, something that also happened at the Spanish Grand Prix a few weeks ago.
After Ferrari completed the assembly of his car, the mechanics proceeded to the usual start-up of the power unit 066/7 to verify that everything was in order and from the first sound of the six-cylinder turbo it emerged that there was something wrong.
The telemetry seems to have revealed a problem in the fuel system inside the tank, which is the same problem that had forced the Maranello team to set up the spare chassis in Barcelona on Saturday evening after qualifying at the Circuit de Catalunya.
The first of the three pumps that make up the fuel system suffered an issue, namely the low-pressure fuel lifting pump made by Marelli. In the system there is a second one which is classified as Open Source (OSC), is made by the teams and also a third high pressure delivery one which is supplied by Bosch.
Replacing the lifting pump is too complicated a job to be carried out in the pits of a circuit, so the Maranello staff has seen fit to set up the spare chassis which, ironically, should be the one that was replaced in Spain. The chassis was intact and without problems so after the pump change it was ready to be used as a rotation between the two drivers when needed.

Carlos Sainz should start the British Grand Prix weekend as if nothing had happened, but it is clear that Ferrari has already been subjected to extra work at the start of the Silverstone event. All in all, the positive aspect is that the issue emerged this afternoon, otherwise Carlos Sainz would have risked losing the two free practice sessions scheduled for tomorrow at the Silverstone circuit.
