Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz took it easy on the first weekend with the Maranello team. And the race has been a sample, perhaps with the memory of the last two years at McLaren, when he started the season with zero points, making it difficult to recover later on.
“It was very important to finish this race and gain experience. There will be time to do the starts I was doing at McLaren and make it hard for others, now it’s time to learn. If I can have this rhythm in the races to come, I will be happy” – he assured in the interview with the Italian media after finishing the race in P8 at the Bahrain International Circuit.
“The start was a shame, I couldn’t do any better and then I took it quite calmly. I still did not know this car was behaving in dirty air and in the first laps I was quite lost. Then gradually the pace was good and I am happy. Despite losing those positions I managed to be there” – the Spanish driver added.
Carlos Sainz had a couple of duels with Fernando Alonso both at the start and during the race, and he is confident he could have had even a better pace: “I had a lot more rhythm than Stroll and Fernando, but they were stuck and making a little train with the DRS and it was difficult to pass them, so I lost a lot of time there. When I got the chance to be in clean air, we were going very fast, but today I learned how the car behaves in dirty air.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded.
