Just three races until the at the end of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship and only one goal for Ferrari to achieve: third place in the Constructors’ standings. The Maranello team finds itself with 31.5 points to manage against McLaren, but speaking during the press conference ahead of the Qatar GP, Carlos Sainz urged his team not to let their guard down.
The performance gap between the two teams is really very narrow and if Ferrari finds itself with such a large margin over its rivals it owes it above all to some episodes that lately have not been very favorable to the Woking cars: “We have a small advantage in terms of race pace, but we’re talking about a tenth and a half, so when you think in these terms it’s normal that it’s the details that make the difference. In Mexico and Brazil there could have been a McLaren ahead of us in turn 1” – Carlos Sainz recalls.
“In the last GP Lando was unlucky with the contact he had with me at the start, while Ricciardo paid most of the price for the incident with Bottas in the previous event. It is only due to some unfavorable circumstances that we have been able to maximize the last few weekends. The situation could have been very different if a few episodes hadn’t occurred.”

“The margins between us are still very tight,” Carlos Sainz insists. “We believe Losail will suit their characteristics more: there are a lot of fast corners and McLaren has always performed well on these types of layouts. However, as this is a new circuit there are also many unknowns, so it is difficult to know exactly what will happen. The goal is to continue to score important points in the fight for third constructors place. “
Finally, speaking of the Arab track, Carlos concluded: “It will be a rather strange weekend. We usually have some time to devote to studying the track in the simulator, but this time, we had less. I had to make do with studying the corners and trajectories watching some videos on You Tube of the onboard footage from the MotoGP and WTCC.” – the Spanish driver concluded.
