Carlos Sainz, the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 driver, exhibited his remarkable golfing prowess while participating in the Ryder Cup All-Star Match held in Rome on Wednesday.
The biennial golf competition, where a team of 12 of Europe’s finest players faces off against a United States team, commenced with a celebrity showdown led by former Ryder Cup captains Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin. The Ferrari driver, boasting a handicap of nine, was among the first group selected to partner with disabled tour professional Tommaso Perrino in a match against fellow pro Kip Popert and Serbian professional tennis player who is currently ranked world No. 1 in singles, Novak Djokovic.
Despite Carlos Sainz displaying impressive skills, the Ferrari man couldn’t prevent a 3-1 defeat to Kip Popert and Novak Djokovic at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club. His Team Pavin, overall, also fell short. Nonetheless, Carlos Sainz received a warm reception from the Italian crowd, marking his first public appearance in Italy since the Spaniard secured the Maranello team’s first win in the 2023 Formula 1 championship, at the Singapore Grand Prix.
Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will make their return to the racetrack for the Maranello team next weekend as Formula 1 heads to Lusail for the Qatar Grand Prix.
