Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz confirmed that his relationship with teammate Charles Leclerc is “even better” than in their first year together in Maranello, despite the fact that this F1 campaign they are in a position to challenge for race victories.
After two difficult seasons fighting only for a place in the midfield zone, Scuderia Ferrari have taken advantage of the new rules and regulation for the 2022 Formula One championship and are finally able to fight for the top spots.
Charles Leclerc has scored two race wins in this first part of the season, as the Monégasque driver had held a healthy lead of the Drivers’ Championship untila DNF in Spain and some bad strategy decisions from Ferrari in Monaco gave the lead to Max Verstappen.
Carlos Sainz still looking for his first Formula 1 victory in a championship in which many of the early predictions were that the Maranello team’s drivers would start to fighting each once they see the prospects of race wins.
However, that has not happened, neither has the tension between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz that many expected would come with it:
“In terms of relationship, everything has been very stable, if anything even better, so all going well so far,” Carlos Sainz said in a recent interview for the official F1 website.
“He’s a great guy, we have a lot of mutual respect, which helps our working relationship. He’s doing a great job adapting to the new car, the new regs, he’s extracting everything out of this Ferrari that I’m trying to do also, and in certain ways copy. I’m having fun with him, we get on well – and we work in the same direction, which is important.” – the Spanish driver added.
Carlos Sainz believes just “one or two tenths” are missing to be able to match his Maranello team-mate in qualifying, which would allow him to start from the front and have a better chance of fighting for the victory.

Carlos Sainz admitted it is up to him to find that extra pace and be able to challenge his Maranello team-mate:
“He’s driving at a very high level, he’s putting together super-impressive lap times, an impressive way of driving and I can only admire and try and in some ways copy, and in others try and put it a bit more in my liking to be faster..Sometimes it goes like this and as a driver you just need to go through a process and challenge yourself.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded.
