This year’s Formula 1 championship is now coming to an end, with just two races remaining in 2021. Just like last last season, until now Ferrari has not managed to finish a race on the top step of the podium, neither with Charles Leclerc nor with the new signing Carlos Sainz, who joined the Maranello team at the start of the championship to replace Sebastian Vettel.
And yet, despite this ‘zero’ on the scoreboard, the Italian side can still boast two pole positions, which were scored consecutively in the first part of the season. Specifically, the author of the fastest lap in qualifying was, in both cases, Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc, able to sprint in front of everyone on the starting grid both in his home race in the Principality of Monaco and then in Azerbaijan, on another city circuit such as that of Baku. On the contrary, Carlos Sainz just missed his first pole start with Ferrari at the Russian Grand Prix, where he set the 2nd time behind Lewis Hamilton.

The Spaniard himself, interviewed by GP Racing on the topic of qualifying, wanted to praise the talent of his teammate, considering him one of the greatest drivers in the hunt for pole position: “I think Charles is the best in qualifying – commented number 55 of Ferrari – he is one of the greatest if not the best driver in Formula One today. I’m only realizing it now, as I see him expressing himself at very high levels. I’m not just talking about speed, but also about the fact that he has a very good work ethic. He is great at working with the team and to be honest he has a lot of strengths that make him such a strong driver. It is a challenge that I like – he concluded – and I know that, probably, there is no one more talented than Charles in a flying lap with a Ferrari”. – Carlos Sainz concluded.
