Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has revealed what phrase he says to himself when having to face a difficult day as a driver for the Maranello team.
Unfortunately, the Italian side has been no stranger to misfortune in the first part of the 2022 Formula 1 championship: despite having the fastest car on several race weekends in 2022, Ferrari’s title hopes have realistically already disappeared ahead of the summer break, with rivals Red Bull and Max Verstappen comfortably leading the standings at this stage of the campaign.
Despite the strong performance of the F1-75 car, Carlos Sainz and his teammate Charles Leclerc encountered several technical issues, which also led to grid penalties. In addition to this, several strategic errors from the Maranello pit wall and a few driving mistakes for Carlos and Charles led to an up-and-down season for Ferrari.
On top of the car and team concerns, Carlos Sainz had a difficult start to the 2022 Formula 1 championship, without being able to match his teammate in the first races and making a few unforced errors which cost him valuable points. The Spanish driver, however, seemed more comfortable with the F1-75 car in recent races and even secured his first Formula 1 victory, in the British Grand Prix last month.
The phrase Carlos Sainz repeats on “not quite right days”
In a recent interview for GQ magazine, the 27-year-old Spanish driver has revealed that in tough times he has a phrase that he says to himself.
Carlos Sainz feels that having an expression to say to yourself helps “if on a given day I feel tired, or sad, or maybe something’s not quite right with me, if I’m in a bad mood and I don’t know why”.

He then revealed what he says to himself during the difficult moments:
“S**t, I’m a Ferrari driver,” Carlos Sainz stated – “I’m in Maranello. I’m going to drive a simulator today. I’m going to test the car. And soon I’m gonna race.” – he added.
