In the qualifying shootout for the Brazilian Grand Prix, Ferrari opted for a particular strategy. During Q3, both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc took to the track with used soft tires.
Both drivers had a new set of red tires available, but the Italian side chose not to use them. Many wondered whether this decision was related to the Sprint Race or the actual race, with Charles Leclerc possibly using it at the start to vie for the lead in tomorro’s Brazilian Grand Prix at the Interlagos circuit.
That’s precisely why Charles Leclerc tried not to reveal too much on the subject, leaving fans and rival teams in doubt. “I don’t know if anyone else besides us had used tires. That’s why we expected not to be very competitive, but we kept the new tires for… some other moment within the weekend,” said the Monegasque driver, who didn’t divulge Ferrari’s strategy. “Let’s see if this choice pays off.”
Carlos Sainz had a completely opposite approach. The former McLaren driver from Spain had no problem disclosing why both SF-23 cars used a used soft tire in Q3. “We decided to save the new set for the race. So, in Q3, we decided to sacrifice the qualifying shootout and the sprint race. We hope to have a good race,” were Carlos Sainz’s words.

The journalists themselves were surprised, to the extent that some even commented, “It seems like Ferrari has just revealed its strategy.”
