Scuderia Ferrari is closer to Red Bull in Formula 1, and according to Carlos Sainz, the dominance of the Austrian side may soon be over. The Spanish driver, who finished third in the Monaco Grand Prix, behind his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc and the McLaren MCL38 of Osca Piastri, is fully confident in the developments of the SF-24 single-seater, with the next big aerodynamic package scheduled to be introduced at Silverstone or the Hungaroring. In full agreement with Frédéric Vasseur’s statements, he believes that Max Verstappen can be pushed into making mistakes, as seen in the qualifying session for the Monaco Grand Prix.
Is it possible to talk about a Formula 1 championship that is wide open after the Monaco round? The debate among fans and experts will continue at least until Canada. The Montreal circuit will be another “peculiar” track where Ferrari can again capitalize on Red Bull’s difficulties in slow corners and where attacking the curbs is necessary. Carlos Sainz also believes this, but he warns that on “classic” tracks, the RB20 car remains favored.
“My common sense tells me that on classic circuits, Red Bull is still the favorite,” explains the Spanish driver. “But I hope they will not dominate as in the past. It will be a very close fight with us and McLaren. I think we are all on the same level. Our last references on normal tracks are Imola and Miami, and I think we are half a tenth behind McLaren and maybe one or two tenths behind Red Bull.” – he pointed out at the end of the Monaco Grand Prix.
According to Carlos Sainz, this means that every small update to the car could make a difference from now until the end of the season. A philosophy often preached by Frédéric Vasseur, who is convinced that the balance of power on the track will depend on the type of circuit faced. What really matters is putting pressure on Red Bull, inducing them to make mistakes, and capitalizing on it.

“Being just 24 points behind them in the standings shows that we are putting pressure on them,” explains Carlos Sainz. “Verstappen made a mistake in Q3, Perez was out in Q1. We need to show that these things can happen to them too. Canada will be a peculiar circuit, while on other European tracks I still see Red Bull as favored. But I don’t think they will be able to dominate.” – the Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver concluded.
