F1 Monza, Carlos Sainz in great form
The first day of free practice for the Italian Grand Prix provides a glimmer of hope for Ferrari fans ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying at Monza, where the Scuderia finished ahead of everyone in the afternoon FP2 session. Carlos Sainz set the absolute fastest time, celebrating his birthday in the best possible way, narrowly ahead of his former McLaren teammate, Lando Norris.
Moreover, the Spaniard had already given good indications during FP1, where he finished in second place behind the championship leader, Max Verstappen. It was indeed a reassuring day for the Prancing Horse and #55, who commented optimistically on the prospects for the weekend.
Carlos Sainz’s comments
“Overall, it’s been a positive Friday: the car seems to be in good shape this weekend, partly thanks to the characteristics of the track, which suit us better. We’re only at the beginning, and tomorrow won’t be easy at all because the times are very close, with many cars within a fraction of a second. We will continue to work to find even more performance, especially on the long runs, where I believe there is room for improvement. I want to thank all the fans: it’s great to drive in front of them here in Monza!”
“I couldn’t have done much better today; it went well today. After such a difficult weekend like Zandvoort, we put the car on the track, and for some reason, it immediately adapted to the track much better, making it much easier to choose the setup. This doesn’t mean that we will be in pole position tomorrow and win the race on Sunday, but at least the feelings with the car are much better. Can the fans dream? Dreaming doesn’t cost anything. Especially on these tracks, we can all dream, and no one takes that away from us. Speaking realistically, however, Red Bull is superior on race pace by three-tenths to half a second.” – the Ferrari man concluded.
