The current Williams driver recalled the win he is most proud of during his time with the Scuderia.
His career in Maranello
Having joined Ferrari in 2021 to replace four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, Carlos Sainz remained in Maranello until last season, when he learned that his time with the Prancing Horse would come to an end following the official announcement of Lewis Hamilton, confirmed for 2025. During his years with the Italian team, the Spanish driver achieved a total of four victories, including the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix, which still stands as Ferrari’s most recent Formula 1 win, almost exactly one year later.
Victories and emotions
But which Ferrari victory made the current Williams driver the proudest? That question was asked to the 31-year-old by El Heraldo de México, and he answered after a brief moment of hesitation: “It’s difficult. Not only because they’re my wins, but I’ve had four really good ones,” he said. “The first one, because it’s Silverstone; it’s special, and it was my first. The first one is always the most special, really. But then I think you’ll agree with me that the win in Singapore was also very special, very different, something that nobody expected and an incredible victory.”
“The win in Australia after my appendicitis surgery, to come back and win right away, is something that maybe makes me prouder as an athlete, right? Being able to recover from an injury or an issue like that and return to win is something special. And then Mexico, because I knew it was my last chance to win a race with Ferrari, and I arrived, dominated the whole weekend, and did it. My whole family and all my friends were there, and I managed to win in front of them.”
