Carlos Sainz comments on the news of Frédéric Vasseur’s contract extension with Scuderia Ferrari, announced at the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.
The contract renewal of Frédéric Vasseur with Scuderia Ferrari is set to be one of the main talking points of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. The timing of the announcement caught many in the Formula 1 paddock by surprise and was addressed by several drivers, including Spanish driver Carlos Sainz.
Now racing for Williams in the 2025 Formula 1 season, Carlos Sainz had previously spent two seasons working alongside Frédéric Vasseur, formerly of Alfa Romeo. During their time together, they shared several satisfying moments and successes. That history explains why, during the official press conference held in Budapest for media personnel, Sainz was asked to comment on Ferrari’s decision to maintain continuity by extending Vasseur’s contract.
In recent months, there had been persistent speculation about a possible departure of Frédéric Vasseur from the Maranello-based team. Tensions and uncertainties swirled around the team’s leadership, but those rumors were ultimately put to rest following recent statements from Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna and the formal confirmation of a multi-year contract extension for Vasseur.
Carlos Sainz’s thoughts on Ferrari’s future
“I believe Ferrari simply wanted to put an end to all the rumors that had been circulating over the past few months,” Carlos Sainz told reporters. “When you are at Ferrari, you constantly have to deal with a lot of speculation. That’s why the team often finds itself making official announcements, just to prevent the rumors from becoming bigger than necessary.”
The Spanish driver then added, “That said, I’m happy for Fred and I believe he will continue to do a great job with the team.”
