Carlos has impressed in his first season alongside Ferrari, after being called to replace four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel at the end of the previous championship.
With just two races until the end of the current season, Carlos Sainz has a point deficit of only 6.5 to teammate Charles Leclerc in the World Championship standings, with the Monegasque driver on 152 points compared to Carlos Sainz’s total of 145.5. Despite the fact that many peope evaluate this as two strong drivers working in tandem in trying to get Scuderia Ferrari back on top in Formula One, some part of the media still seem intent on using Carlos Sainz’s performances as a threat to Charles Leclerc’s overall stature within the Maranello team in the next years.

At the end of the Qatar Grand Prix, a race in which Carlos Sainz finished in seventh place and thus extended his points-scoring streak to 13 races, which Charles Leclerc in P8 right behind him, the rivalry question was once again batted away by long-time Ferrari ambassador Marc Gene.
Asked if Carlos Sainz was threatening Charles Leclerc’ status at Ferrari with his performances by Sky Italia, Marc Gene explained: “There will not be a number one and a number two driver even when we will fight for the Championship. The important thing is that it keeps being like that and I’m sure it will keep being like that because of Ferrari’s DNA.” – he said.
Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto has made it clear in recent weeks that Charles and Carlos are free to fight each other on track as he trusts them both not to forget about the overall aim and objectives for the Italian side. The two drivers have been also been swapping positions between each other in recent races to allow them to fight further up the road, before switching back if that particular plan does not work out in the end.
