In the interesting interview for Spanish daily newspaper Marca, Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz addressed head-on the label of being a hard-working rather than a talented driver that has been attributed to him over the years, often the cause of his lack of consideration when it comes to drivers which are expected to fight for the very first positions in various rankings
“If you don’t have talent, you can’t do a quick lap in qualifying. So we mainly talk about talent, I put the rest with work “, he explained in his analysis, adding:” I have a reputation as a hard-working driver and not as a talent, I don’t know why. It seems like I go fast just because I work hard, but you don’t quickly adapt to a car without having some talent. But who has to take me into consideration does it. Ask Charles or Lando, who have seen my telemetry or my team principals, they know what I am capable of and certainly have a high regard for me. ” – the Spanish driver explained.
Carlos Sainz then reiterated the importance of creating a good atmosphere in the team: “My philosophy is to have a calm environment in the team, without adding further concerns. In Formula 1 there is already enough pressure and competition, so I think it’s logical to try not to increase them within your own team. In the end, getting along is pure logic, it is in personal interest “. – he added.
Finally, the Spanish Ferrari driver confided not to read too much Formula 1 news: “I read less and less, because I think that flattery weakens and that criticism distracts. I try not to read too much, because there is only praise or criticism ”, concluded Carlos Sainz.
