Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz admtted that there is an additional sense of pressure associated with driving for the most important Formula 1 team. The Spaniard moved to Scuderia Ferrari last year in order to replace four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel and had a solid first year in Maranello, scoring four podium finishes and securing fifth place in the 2021 Formula 1 Driver Standings, ahead of his former McLaren teammare Lando Norris and most importantly ahead of his current Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished the championship in P7.
Despite his positive 2021 Formula 1 season, Carlos Sainz confirmed there are some extra stresses which inevitably come with being a driver for the Maranello team: “It comes with a lot more pressure. It also comes with a bit of a busier schedule, being a Ferrari driver and having to have so many commitments, so it does make the season a bit more packed, a bit more stressful, a bit more with extra pressure.” – the Spanish driver explained.
At the same time, Carlos Sainz is happy to have achieved the dream of racing for Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1 and therefore the pressures that come with the responsibilities are much easier to deal with, Carlos confirms:

“It’s been fairly easy for me to keep reminding myself that I am achieving a dream. That is to drive for the best team in Formula 1, and the most historic team in Formula 1. It’s a dream come true for me since I’m a kid, [to] be driving for Ferrari, and if I keep reminding myself [of] this kind of thing, then I actually go into the [race] weekend always excited, always with good energy, always trying to learn, trying to become better to make sure that, if the chance of fighting for a World Championship with Ferrari ever arrives, I’m going to be as prepared and as ready as possible.” – he added.
Carlos Sainz believes that all of this has allowed him to improve as a Formula 1 racer in his first year in Maranello, as the Spanish driver now feels ready to face the challenges of 2022:
“This has given me a good balance this year. It’s allowed me to make another little step as a driver, and to make me finish the season on a high, and now [I’m] ready to [face] whatever comes in 2022.” – Carlos Sainz concluded.
