Carlos Sainz is now close to saying goodbye to Scuderia Ferrari to make room for Lewis Hamilton starting with the 2025 Formula 1 championship. Despite the fact that a lot of time has passed since the announcement of the English driver’s arrival at Maranello, the current season is not yet over, and the Spaniard has never stopped renewing his gratitude for Ferrari.
It certainly wasn’t easy for the number 55 to accept the divorce from the Maranello team, but during the 2024 Formula 1 season, he had several opportunities to demonstrate his value. In the end, Carlos Sainz chose to embrace Williams’ project, and from there, he will restart to give a new direction to his career.
Although Williams may not immediately give him the chance to fight for the podium, the Spaniard still chose the English team in an attempt to bring it back to the top. In the meantime, however, he emphasizes that his story with Ferrari remains important to him.
“I have no negative words for Ferrari. I am also firmly convinced that they have no negative words for me and for what I have done in these years. In the end, I didn’t leave Ferrari, nor did Ferrari say goodbye to me because of problems between us. External circumstances simply came into play,” the Spaniard tells the Spanish newspaper AS.
“I won’t deny that if Lewis Hamilton hadn’t chosen to end his career with Ferrari, I certainly would have renewed with them. But you can’t easily say no to a seven-time world champion like Hamilton. It was destiny.” – the Spanish driver pointed out, according to AS.
He then adds: “I won’t look with envy at Lewis Hamilton’s work next season, even if it will also be the result of my work. I’ll just be focused on the present,” Carlos Sainz concluded.
