In a candid discussion with Tom Clarkson during celebrated F1 podcast Beyond The Grid, Renault driver from Spain Carlos Sainz shared a few interesting perspectives on his motor-racing journey the central highlight of which was the fact that Grand Prix racing is in his blood, being the son of celebrated Spanish driver Carlos Sainz.
At the same time, in an interesting revelation, Carlos Sainz also threw light on his relationship with Sebastian Vettel of Scuderia Ferrari, a driver who has impressed him all throughout and someone whose humility has inspired him to stay grounded and focused. The Spanish driver points out that Sebastian Vettel is also very friendly: “You often see him laughing in the paddock. He addresses everyone with his name and he always takes his time for you and asks about your family. You don’t often see that in the paddock, especially not from a four-time world champion.” – Carlos Sainz admitted.
The Renault driver also looked back to a test in Abu Dhabi which took place in 2013 when he was compared to Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull Racing because they would drive the same car: “I drove a few laps on fresh tires. Then he started driving. He drove with exactly the same settings as me, which made me nervous. In the end he was half a second faster than me. Then he came to me at the engineering meeting and gave me a hand. “You drove really well,” he said. Since then I have a lot of respect for him.” – Carlos Sainz said in the podcast.
