Carlos Sainz has spoken about the chances of a comeback against Red Bull and being in contention to win in 2024. The possibilities exist, he stated, but it’s not guaranteed to happen. Yet, Ferrari is the team that can make it happen.
For Ferrari, 2024 must be the year to make significant strides to compete throughout the season with Red Bull Racing.
The 2023 season was lacking in triumphs, except for Carlos Sainz’s victory at the Singapore Grand Prix. That was the only non-Red Bull win in the 22 races. This likely sets the stage for Red Bull to be the favorites in the upcoming season as well.
Speaking at an event in Spain, Carlos Sainz discussed Ferrari’s chances of victory or a return to higher competitiveness in 2024.
“Time will tell. My opinion is that, yes, as a team, we should be able to recover. Being able to doesn’t mean we will, because it’s really a very big step to take next year. It’s a very challenging goal, not just for Ferrari but also for Aston Martin, McLaren, and Mercedes.”
“It’s a very difficult goal for any team that wants to take the championship from Red Bull, especially after the season they’ve had. But if there’s anyone who believes we can do it, it’s Ferrari, especially after the way we finished the season and the progress we’ve shown.” – he explained.

This year, Carlos Sainz and Ferrari won in Singapore, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the SF-23 was the foundation to build upon. Mercedes made this mistake in 2022 after a strong showing in the Brazilian Grand Prix. The W14 was an evolution of the previous car, but the error in choice became evident from the 2023 Bahrain tests.
“The same thing happened to Mercedes, which won in Brazil, was the fastest team in Brazil, and I’m sure they saw that car in a good light, saying, ‘We need to go into 2023 developing this because we’re not that far off.’ But 2023 showed us that maybe it wasn’t exactly the right choice, and we need to reset our path a bit.” – the Spaniard pointed out.
“I hope that between 2023 and 2024, everyone goes in the same direction and that we see, as with McLaren, that when you hit the right key and it works, you can make very rapid progress, and I hope it’s the same next year.” – the Ferrari man concluded.
