There are those who rely on experience to get out of a crisis. Others, however, focus on youth: for example Scuderia Ferrari, the Italian side that chose Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to get back on top. The youngest line-up in the red since 1968 has the task of bringing Maranello back to fighting for podiums and wins, a difficult mission because the 2020 base has proved unsuitable and the competition is well ahead.
First of all we need alchemy between the two drivers. Carlos Sainz has successfully experienced it at McLaren, teaming up well with Lando Norris. The two worked togheter without problems and discussed every detail of the machine in order to give unique indications to the engineers on the aspects that need to be improved. It is Carlos himself who explains how the first days of meeting Charles Leclerc went: “Charles and I get along well, we often talk on the phone. I think it is already fine, we will get even better in time.”- these are the words of the Spaniard, as reported by the German portal Motorsport-Total.com .
Of course, Charles has a totally different character from that of Lando Norris. It must be impossible to argue with the latter, given the outgoing and affable nature that he also shows in interviews. But Carlos is not worried: “I want to emphasize that I had a very good relationship with all my teammates, especially with Norris, with whom I got along well from day one. It seemed super natural to me: we are both ambitious, nevertheless we have never abandoned the ‘right path’. But I don’t expect it to always go this way when I have a new teammate”.
The youngster from Bristol, for his part, added: “Carlos and I pushed each other very aggressively, but in a different way than usual. Obviously we wanted to prevail over our teammate to fight, we both have a competitive spirit.”
