Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz hopes that Formula 1 drivers will not have to face the “annoying” porpoising problem for the entire 2022 F1 championship.
Team had an unpleasant surprise when they hit the track at the Circuit de Catalunya for the first pre-season testing session in Barcelona two weeks ago. The test was marked by the new generation of Formula 1 challengers suffering from excessive bouncing on the straights.
The issue, which is a direct consequence of the decision to move to more ground effect aerodynamics for the new season, impacted each team to some degree, but some were able to manage it better. For now it seems that getting rid of the porpoising without compromising performance will be quite difficult as teams continue preparations for the beginning of the 2022 campaign, which could leave drivers in a situation where they have to face it.

The reality of what drivers may face should become clearer when teams beging the second pre-season testing session at the Bahrain International circuit, but Scuderia Ferrari driver Caarlos Sainz is one hoping for a quick solution.
“It doesn’t feel great, obviously,” he said. “Especially when you think that we’re doing 300 km/h and we’re jumping 30-40mm up and down like crazy. Annoying. But hopefully it’s resolved and it’s not something that we need to live with. It’s quite on the limit. You have to trust the engineers and everyone around you that it’s just going to keep getting better, as we learn these ground effect cars.” – the Spanish driver explained.
