Scuderia Ferrari delivered an impressive performance at the Italian Grand Prix held in Monza. The team secured third and fourth places, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc putting up a fierce challenge against the Red Bulls throughout the race. However, as they engaged in a thrilling battle for a spot on the podium, it kept the passionate tifosi on the edge of their seats. This achievement served as a wonderful birthday gift for Carlos, who celebrated his 29th birthday earlier in the week. It marked his 16th Formula 1 podium, the first of this season, and a remarkable 802nd for the team. With the addition of 27 points from this race, Ferrari has surpassed Aston Martin in the Constructors’ standings and now trails Mercedes by 45 points.
Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has commended his Maranello colleague Charles Leclerc following their exhilarating duel for third position during the 2023 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at the Monza circuit.
Following Sergio Perez’s successful overtake of Carlos Sainz to claim second place, the two Ferrari drivers engaged in a fierce contest for the third spot, with the Monegasque endeavoring to thwart Carlos Sainz’s pursuit of his first podium finish of the 2023 Formula 1 campaign. In a nail-biting final lap, the Spanish driver managed to maintain his position with a mere 0.184-second lead, during which Charles Leclerc experienced a lock-up of both front tires and came perilously close to colliding with the rear SF-23 car of his Maranello teammate.
“It was tough, hard racing, and it’s always been a pleasure to race Charles whenever we have had the chance. And today was the same. He is a great racer, the same as Max and Checo. We had fun out there and I hope the fans enjoyed it. You cannot get any tougher than that what it was today, honestly I was pushing the whole race to keep the Red Bull behind. That obviously made me use the rear tyres a lot, and I ended up paying the price with the rear tyres, but I did everything I could to defend and brought it home in P3, but it was a tough race for sure.” – Carlos Sainz explained at the end of the Italian Grand Prix.
