In a recent interview for Sky Germany, Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz was asked about Team Principal Mattia Binotto’s observation that he did not have a perfect race weekend yet:
“I think he stole that quote from me, I see it the same way. Sometimes I have done almost everything right but it never was perfect. But the good thing is, even so, it is going well. And the integration couldn’t have gone better…I was welcomed like in a family. It was fun right away. Ferrari wants to race for titles, that’s how we see ourselves. I, too, have come here to make my contribution to winning the title. Next year, everything is possible. Our priority is 2022, we have to be ready when the new regulations come.” – the Spanish driver explained, as reported by the German media at the end of the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.
Carlos was also asked about his physical preparation: “My optimal preparation is boxing. You constantly train your reflexes and the coordination between body, feet, eyes and hands, and above all you have to be highly concentrated even when you start to get tired. It’s like being in the cockpit.” – he added.
About his partnership with Charles Leclerc and the fact that his teammate seems able to capitalize the strengths of the Ferrari SF21 car a little bit better than the Spanish driver, Carlos Sainz said: “Of course Charles knows pretty well how to drive this car, after being at Ferrari for three years now. It’s true that I’m am trying to copy some of his driving style. I just want to absorb everything he knows about the car.”
