Carlos Sainz moved to Williams after Ferrari decided to hire Lewis Hamilton in his place. But does the Spaniard feel missed by the Maranello team? Here is his answer: If they miss me, you should ask them.
The Prancing Horse decided to sign seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton instead of Carlos Sainz in February 2024. This decision has apparently proven questionable, as the British driver failed to achieve a single podium with Ferrari in 2025. But does the ‘Matador’ feel missed at Maranello? Here is what he thinks.
During his time with Ferrari, Carlos Sainz often demonstrated that he could keep pace with Charles Leclerc. The two delivered some memorable battles, though the Monegasque driver proved more consistent throughout the season. In total, Carlos Sainz secured four wins behind the wheel of the Ferrari since 2022—a respectable tally considering that the team was not always the fastest during the ground-effect era. In 2025, Lewis Hamilton set a record few could have imagined: zero podiums. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz claimed two podiums, including one in the Austin Sprint race. Here are his words reported by ANSA and Marca.
Sainz: “If they miss me, you should ask them”
“I’m satisfied with my two podiums, not because Hamilton scored none or because he is struggling. I also achieved a podium in the Austin Sprint. I’m happy to have achieved these results despite the many doubts last year about my ability to succeed. Do I feel missed at Ferrari? I don’t think I can answer that question. I’m no longer there daily, so I can’t tell you how they are working or if they miss me or not. On a more personal level, I like to think I left a good impression on my colleagues and the fans. These were four very intense years, and I left behind great friends and professionals. If they miss me, you should ask them,” Carlos Sainz said.
Clearly, adapting to a new car that is far from competitive and a completely different team has put Hamilton under pressure. The seven-time world champion reportedly faces limited options looking toward 2027, leaving his future entirely in Ferrari’s hands. The Italian team must ensure they have the best possible car for the 2026 regulation change. That will be the moment for Sir Lewis to prove he can still compete with the best; otherwise, his signing will be considered a sporting failure.
Something tells us Ferrari might not want to answer that question right now.
