In Canada, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured his sixth win of the 2022 Formula 1 season out of nine races so far. In the last six events, after retiring at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, the Dutchman has put together an impressive performance, taking five wins and a third place, steadily picking up points, week after week, over all his main rivals in the fight for the 2022 F1 title race.
At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, the Dutchman once again showed a great ability in capitalizing to perfection on all the problems of his direct rivals, starting with the retirement of his teammate Sergio Perez and the fifth place of Charles Leclerc, forced to start from the last row due to several penalties for changing power unit parts.
With the second and third places of the world ranking forced to start from behind, Max Verstappen’s main opponent for the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix was Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard finished second at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, threatening Max Verstappen’s victory until the last corner of the final lap.
After a first phase of the championship full of mistakes, problems and assorted misfortunes, Carlos Sainz now finally seems to feel more at ease with his F1-75. However, his gap in the standings as compared to the reigning world champion has now increased to 73 points. Charles Leclerc is third, 49 points from the top, while among the constructors Ferrari is 76 points behind Red Bull. In such a long championship, however, great comebacks are always possible.
Max Verstappen himself demonstrates this, as the Dutchman was sixth at -46 from the top after three GPs in 2022.

Not surprisingly, speaking in front of the microphones of Sky Sport F1 after yesterday’s race, Carlos Sainz showed more optimism in view of the world championship race, also explaining some of his statements from last week: “I believe in the World Championship – underlined the Spanish driver at the end of the Canadian Grand Prix – “For me, for Ferrari and also for Charles. I believe it for everybody. My approach since the last few races is to go race by race. I said I don’t fight for the title, but I explained myself badly. I meant that I fight race by race without thinking about the World Championship. But every race I do I want to win. And if this leads me to fight for the World title, that’s fine. If I can help Ferrari or Charles I will help them, but what I want is to be fast in every race. That is how you can win the title.” – Carlos Sainz concluded.
