Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has vowed not to dwell on the disappointment outcome of the second free practice session for the 2022 Miami Grand Prix. Carlos crashing out of another session after 20 minutes and was therefore unable to gather important data for the Maranello team to analyse and find the right setup ahead of the qualifying session and the race on Sunday.
The Ferrari driver was at the top of the times after the first runs in FP2, when he lost the rear of his F1-75 going through Turn 14 and spun off into the barriers. The incident sparked the red flags, while for Carlos the second practice session ended with this unfortunate event. The Spanish driver immediately apologized over team radio for what was the latest in a growing list of crashes for Carlos Sainz, who was recently confirmed by the Italian side until the end of the 2024 Formula One championship.
The last two races have been far from ideal for the Spaniard, who first spun out of the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit after a poor start which dropped him outside the top ten. Things didn’t go any better in the qualifying session at Imola, before retiring from the race for no fault of his own, after being hit by the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo.
“Obviously, not the best way to start the weekend after a costly snap ended our Friday early,” said a rueful Carlos Sainz after the second free practice session at the Miami International Autodrome on Friday – “Still, I feel the car was competitive and I have confidence in our performance. It’s pointless to dwell on today, so we’ll put our full focus on [Saturday] and the race. The extra work for the mechanics is the worst part, so I’ll definitely speak to them and the rest of the team. I look forward to [Saturday].” – the Ferrari driver concluded.
