Just a few days after the French Grand Prix at the Paul Ricard track, the Scuderia Ferrari camp was in a positive frame of mind in Hungary, as Carlos Sainz in particular looked confident regarding his chances to secure a strong result at the Hungaroring.
While the Spaniard confirmed that the track characteristics of the Hungaroring should adapt well to the F1-75, Carlos Sainz also pointed out that it’s not all about pace for the Maranello team, with the need to get the basics right just as important.
“We need it,” he said when asked about the importance of having a clean weekend in Hungary – “But everyone needs a clean weekend, I think. We all strive for clean weekends. In F1 they are more difficult to get than people think. It’s still a long year ahead and as we’ve seen this year, anything can happen in any race and it’s been such an up and down year for everyone. Even if the top four is consistent then the outcome of the weekend is not what you expect. There’s a still a lot to play for and a lot to go for.”
The lack of a long straight at the Hungaroring should help increase the strengths of the Ferrari 2022 Formula 1 car, coupled with the fact they have a slightly better qualifying record than their Red Bull rivals and it is a well known fact that qualifying is very important at this venue, given the difficulty in overtaking at the Hungaroring:
“[I’m] confident that we can fight for that win this weekend and that we can perform a solid weekend like we did in Austria and France. Every race, I’m feeling more comfortable in the car, and race pace in France was good, in Austria too. The qualifying pace in France was good, especially in Q2. I think we have the ingredients, we just need to put it all together on Sunday.” – the Spanish driver added during his Thursday interview.

Carlos Sainz has scored his first Formula 1 win and pole position this season, but his Maranello team mate Charles Leclerc has been very strong on Saturdays especially, taking seven pole positions from 12 race weekends so far. And the Monegasque driver needs a positive result in this last race ahead of the summer break to atone for his mistake in the French Grand Prix, which cost many points in his title battle against Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who was therefore able to take a commanding lead in the drivers’ championship ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
