Carlos Sainz Like Max Verstappen
Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz kicked off the 2024 Formula 1 championship with a strong podium finish at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir last weekend, behind the Red Bull cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. The Spaniard had qualified in the second row with the fourth fastest time and lost a position to Sergio Perez at the start, but he managed to climb back to third place, partly due to the brake issues that affected Charles Leclerc’s race (and Carlos Sainz’s to a lesser extent).
The Ferrari driver did not participate in media activities yesterday because he was feeling unwell. According to today’s edition of the Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera, the Ferrari driver has suffered from a food-related issue. He will not be at 100%, but he will grit his teeth and is expected to be behind the wheel of the SF-24 number #55 later today for the two free practice sessions at the Jeddah circuit in view of the the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
One year ago, Max Verstappen faced the same issue. The Dutchman also missed the eve of the weekend due to an intestinal problem and then finished the GP in second place behind Sergio Perez, a result affected by a technical knockout in Q2 due to a driveshaft failure that forced Max Verstappen to start from the middle of the pack and climb up to the second spot.
