Carlos Sainz eliminated in Q1 at Abu Dhabi. The Ferrari driver continues to experience a challenging weekend at the 5.281-kilometre Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island.
In the second free practice session for the 2023 F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Spanish driver hit a bump that caused him to lose control of the car, leading to a collision with the barriers. The mechanics in the pit worked hard to repair the #55 car, which was completely damaged on the left side.
Carlos Sainz’s tough weekend continued in Q1 at Abu Dhabi, where he was eliminated. The Red driver hadn’t been knocked out in the first qualifying session since Brazil 2019. But what happened to the Ferrari driver at Yas Marina? Why couldn’t he make it to Q2? Carlos Sainz himself explained in an interview for the Sky Sport F1 cameras.
“For me, everything is tight this weekend with the engine,” he began. “I had to do everything perfectly to reach Q2 and Q3. Today we had a lot of delay getting out of the box in the last run due to a problem with the front wing. We caught all the traffic.” – the Ferrari driver added.
Carlos Sainz then explained that he realized early on that he hadn’t set a good time. “I knew the first two sectors weren’t good enough. In the third sector, I went fast, but not enough to make a clean lap,” he concluded with Sky.

A black weekend
Problems for Carlos Sainz started on Friday with a frightening crash during the second practice session, as we previously mentioned.
His Maranello teammate, Charles Leclerc, will start from the second position in the race.
Scuderia Ferrari’s goal is to secure P2 in the Constructors’ Championship. It will be an interesting night, as only four points separate the Maranello team from Mercedes ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
