If Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz were faced with the choice between being teammates with Max Verstappen once again or partnering up with Lewis Hamilton, the Spaniard admitted that he would opt for the seven-time Formula 1 world champion.
During the current Formula 1 championship, there were rumors that Carlos Sainz could either become Lewis Hamilton’s teammate in Maranello from the following season or make way for the arrival of the seven-time champion, with speculation in the British media reporting on the Mercedes man being close to joining the Italian side. Luckily for Carlos Sainz, these speculations never translated into any actual driver moves and it has now become clear that Lewis Hamilton will remain at Mercedes once his long-awaited deal extension is finalized and officially announced in the upcoming weeks.
Although Carlos Sainz has already been Max Verstappen’s teammate in the past, having made their Formula 1 breakthrough together at Toro Rosso eight years ago as graduates of the Red Bull Academy, he has never had the opportunity to call Hamilton his teammate throughout his motorsport career.
Therefore, if given the opportunity, Carlos Sainz would seize the chance to change that, believing that working alongside the British driver, who statistically is the best Formula 1 driver ever, would help him become a better racing driver.
“I’ve already been Max’s team-mate, so I know I would get on well with him and we would have a good [relationship],” – the Ferrari man confirmed in a recent interview for the Express in which he also shared his thoughts on the overall state of Formula 1 – “I’ve never been team-mates with Lewis, but I guess being a team-mate of a seven-time World Champion has to be good for your career and you’re probably going to learn. So maybe, just to try something different, I would like Lewis. But honestly, I don’t care. Whoever I have as a team-mate, I’ll embrace it.” – the Spaniard added.

For now Carlos Sainz has secured one grand prix victory during his Formula 1 career, crossing the finish line first last year at the Silverstone circuit. This race holds a special significance for Lewis Hamilton given the fact that it is his home event, and he holds the record for the most wins at this race with a total of eight victories, surpassing all other drivers.

When asked to look back at last year’s British Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver says that it is “the best moment of my life and career”. At the same time, the Spaniard is now focused on other races in the Formula 1 championship where he targets race victories for the Maranello team: “Monza, Spain and Monaco are the places where I would like to win next with Ferrari,” – the Spaniard pointed out in his interview for the British media.
