Carlos Sainz has scored two podium finishes in the first two rounds of the 2022 Formula 1 season, the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, making it a positive start to the new championship. However, the Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver was not completely happy with how things went in the first two events this year, given the fact that he was not able to challenge for the race win. And Carlos has set his sights on this big target for the 2022 Formula 1 campaign: finally getting that elusive first victory in Formula 1.
Carlos Sainz, who has collected eight podium finishes during his Formula 1 career so far, was asked about his main target for the new championship, especially given Ferrari’s encouraging potential thanks to the F1-75 car: “I would like to get a win, and the rest, let’s see,” – Carlos Sainz explained – “I keep chasing my dream in Formula 1, which is to win the first race obviously, then a championship. But to win a championship, you need to win a race. I will keep chasing that; I am not saying it will happen but it’s what I wake up every morning or go to sleep with in my head every day, so I wish it to happen.” – the Ferrari driver continued.
The Maranello team is currently leading both the drivers and constructors’ championship and is fighting Red Bull in this first part of the season, as the battle now moves at the Albert Park Circuit, which hosts the Australian Grand Prix this weekend. With expectations high that the Italian side has the potential of challenging for both titles this year, the Spaniard is confident he has the ability to deliver for the Maranello team and help Ferrari achieve its goals.
“I have been ready for a while for my first win. To win a world championship, you need a win and consistent podiums, and over the last few years, I have shown, and I have proved to myself, that every time I had an opportunity to score a podium, I’ve got it. I have had the chance to win once or twice, and I’ve nearly made it. So, I am confident; you give me the right car, I think I can be there.” – Carlos Sainz explained, as the Spanish driver will be looking to get that first victory at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend.
