It is now official: Carlos Sainz has signed a new contract with Scuderia Ferrari and will remain with the Maranello team for at least another two seasons. The Spanish driver moved to Ferrari from McLaren at the start of the 2021 Formula 1 championship with the difficult task of replacing a four-time Formula 1 world champion like Sebastian Vettel.
Carlos Sainz immediately impressed with his speed, consistency and collaborative philosophy, working alongside Charles Leclerc to help Ferrari improve and return to the top of the grid. The new contract, which was officially announced earlier today, means his contract is as long as that of Charles Leclerc, who in 2020 signed a five-year agreement.
“I have said several times that I believe we have the best driver pairing in Formula 1 and so, with every passing race, it seemed a completely natural step to extend Carlos’ contract, thus ensuring stability and continuity. In his time so far with the team, he has proved to have the talent we expected from him, delivering impressive results and making the most of all opportunities. Outside the car, he is a hard worker with an eye for the smallest detail, which has helped the whole group to improve and progress. Together, we can aim for ambitious targets and I’m sure that, along with Charles, he can play a significant part in fuelling the Ferrari legend and will write new chapters in the history of our team.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto said, as Ferrari confirmed the contract extension for Carlos.
