Carlos Sainz prepares for his last dance with Ferrari by participating in his final FIA press conference at the Abu Dhabi GP, dressed in red and joined by Lewis Hamilton. The Spaniard shares heartfelt words for the team that has been his home for the past four years.
Before saying goodbye to the Maranello team, Sainz has set himself a task: to bring the world championship back to Italy, to the team that has won more championships than any other. Here are his words during the FIA press conference.
“The world championship would mean everything to me,” Carlos Sainz said before leaving Ferrari.
“It will certainly be a very emotional and intense weekend, not just because it’s my last with Ferrari, but also because of the battle in the Constructors’ Championship. It’s been a tough year, with many things happening behind the scenes, but I’m proud of how I’ve handled every situation and I’m ready to fight until the end,” the Spaniard shared.
Then, about the Abu Dhabi GP goal: “Leaving Ferrari as Constructors’ Champion? That would mean everything to me, the best way to bid farewell to a team that has been my home for the last four years. However, to be honest, recovering 21 points in a single weekend against a strong team like McLaren will be tough. It requires perfection from us and a subpar weekend from them. But nothing is impossible in racing.” – the future Williams driver pointed out.
Can Ferrari really win in Abu Dhabi? According to the Spaniard, nothing is truly impossible. “This weekend is really very balanced, not just between Ferrari and McLaren but also with Mercedes and Red Bull. It will depend on the track, the tires, and the conditions. Every weekend seems to favor a different team, so we’ll see after practice who will be the strongest,” concluded the Spaniard.
