When he’s not a Formula 1 driver, Carlos Sainz is passionate about many other sports, including football. And when there are no races, Ferrari drivers usually spend a lot of time in Maranello working in the simulator. Between breaks, especially after a hard day’s work, they often relax with other activities.
In Castelnuovo, in the province of Modena, Ferrari employees are regulars at the local church’s sports field, so much so that they rented it for a few hours. The initiative helps improve teamwork, and often the drivers participate as well.
As reported by Italian newspaper *La Gazzetta di Modena*, a few nights ago, Ferrari’s factory workers gathered for their usual football match, with Carlos Sainz joining them.
The event took place in secret, according to the newspaper, but some local residents managed to sneak a peek and saw the Madrid native – who plays quite well – in action. Off with the Ferrari suit, in his last year with the Prancing Horse, the #55 driver put on his football boots and kit. One distinguishing feature: he wore a Real Madrid jersey, his favorite team. After the match, there was time for photos and autographs.
Carlos Sainz will bid farewell to Ferrari at the end of this season to make way for Lewis Hamilton, who will be alongside Charles Leclerc next year. The Spaniard, on the other hand, will move to Williams after months of indecision, rejecting an offer from Audi.
The driver announced his decision to join the Grove team last July, fully aware that he will be taking a step back compared to his peak years with Ferrari, but eager to contribute to the revival of the historic British team.
