Madrid is eager for F1
There is still a year and a half left before Madrid’s grand return to the calendar, but the Spanish capital is already excited at the thought of welcoming Formula 1 again after more than forty years.
Despite concerns raised by the city council about the difficulties in finding sponsors willing to invest in the event, the plans should not undergo significant changes, with the first works for the construction of the new semi-permanent street circuit, which will be located near the IFEMA exhibition center and will circle the Real Madrid training grounds in Valdebebas, expected to begin in the coming months.
However, the Spanish promoter does not intend to limit itself to merely organizing the GP. According to El Mundo, Madrid is preparing a series of shows around the release of the tickets. To boost sales, the capital also plans to involve Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso, following a similar strategy to last year with Sergio Perez, who did several runs at the wheel of the RB7.
The Spaniard has already had the opportunity to greet the people of the capital in the past, speeding through the main streets of the city in his Renault R23 around Plaza de Cuzco and Plaza de Lima.
Additionally, IFEMA is not only aiming to host Formula 1 but also to convince Dorna for a potential fifth MotoGP race in Spain. However, this scenario seems difficult to achieve at the moment, considering the nature of the track and the many Spanish events already on the calendar (Jerez, Barcelona, Aragon, Valencia).
