After a less than positive start to the 2023 Formula One season, Carlos Sainz is aware that the SF-23 single-seater needs to improve, and a lot too. At the same time, however, he said he was eager to get on the podium again and didn’t rule out the possibility that Ferrari could return (even) to fighting for victory in the coming months. He stated this by taking stock of the situation on the new F1 campaign during an event organized by Estrella Galicia 0,0. We offer you an extract of his considerations.
The words of Carlos Sainz
“The truth is that it hasn’t been an easy start to the season. Everyone at Ferrari expected much more; after fighting for poles and victories last year, we went to this championship with the same intentions,” Carlos Sainz begins the press conference. Then he adds: “We were surprised by the speed of Red Bull and by how much other teams, such as Aston Martin, have improved. But the goal is clear: to get back on the podium as soon as possible and win races. To achieve this, you have to work hard at the Maranello factory and make improvements” – the Spaniard pointed out.
“It is true that, with the advantage that Red Bull has at the moment, we will have to improve a lot if we want to fight for the win. But if something happens to Red Bull and Aston Martin in any race, we have to be good at sneaking in first.” – the number 55 of the Maranello team continues.
Finally he concluded by adding that “personally, until mathematics says otherwise, I will arrive at every race thinking of winning and reducing the gap. Which is what we did in these first races. If we didn’t have that penalty in the Australian Grand Prix, now we would have an additional twelve important points.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded.
