Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz reacts to a tricky day after taking fourth place in the qualifying session for the 2023 Formula One Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit. His Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc will start Sunday’s race from pole position:
“It was a very tricky afternoon and morning because since P1 I was a bit nowhere with my feeling with the pace of the car. I was just struggling quite a lot meaning when it came to Q3 I already had one set less of new tyres, I was coming from behind really struggling and it wasn’t a good day for me. There is parc ferme and it will be tough to change anything from here onwards and I will have to find everything in myself. It is very tricky but I can also see why the car is performing very well. Compared to Australia it is the same car, the same setup, but for some reason it feels a bit different.” – Carlos Sainz said after the qualifying session for the 2023 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
“I think also Charles in Baku tends to do very good laps and is very quick on this track. I will do my homework, I always try to look to myself and improve and I will try to do that tomorrow but for sure it is not going to be easy. That is the compromises of this sprint format, if you are comfortable it is good, if not, you are chasing so we will see.” – the Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver concluded after a tricky qualifying session.
