Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz admitted to being extremely frustrated after the difficulties encountered at Zandvoort by limping his way through the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix due to the lack of pace. Seventh place is not a completely terrible result for Carlos, but the big gap to his teammate clearly showed the problems of his SF21 car.
The Spanish driver confirmed that he had never felt slower than he did today at the Dutch Grand Prix:
“I am very puzzled at the moment because I had no pace at all during the race since the first lap. Really I was struggling a lot with the front and tyres. I was degrading the tyres, it felt like I was sliding a lot and I couldn’t match the pace I had on Friday. This means we need to look into what went wrong because I have never felt so slow in a race, to be honest. I was struggling a lot and had no pace whatsoever.” – Carlos said, as reported by Sky F1.
Considering the circumstances surely P7 on such a bad day is a strong result?
“Yes, but I was looking forward to battling for the top five, and I was defending for the top 10,” was Carlos Sainz’s response to that theory.
While Charles Leclerc managed to convert his P5 grid slot into a P5 finish, he too was hoping for better – namely the P4 that went the way of AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly.
Scuderia Ferrari will now focused on arguably the most important race of the season for the Maranello team, the Italian Grand Prix in front of the Tifosi.
