With a video on his Instagram profile, Sky Italia commentator Carlo Vanzini analyzed Scuderia Ferrari’s performance in the first two Grands Prix of the 2023 Formula 1 season. In particular, he critically commented on the fact that Ferrari was the only car that lost pace compared to its 2022 version. This is clearly seen from the times of its drivers at the Jeddah Corniche circuit: Charles Leclerc went from a 1.33.608 to a 1.34.690, losing more than a second. The same could be seen for Carlos Sainz, which collapsed from 1.33.794 to 1.34.526.
In this regard, Carlo Vanzini pointed out that “how the SF-23 managed to go a second and a half slower than the F1-75 in Saudi Arabia is impossible to comprehend. All this is difficult to understand. It is true, Saudi Arabia has changed some corners, the track is slower. But a normal car would lose a tenth to the top spot. It would have lost more if Max Verstappen had ended qualifying on pole, because he always gives three or four tenths to his main rivals. Then in the race we lose like this. It’s not just a matter of philosophy. There’s something else.” – Carlo Vanzini warned.
“There are three hypotheses: either big lies told to Benedetto Vigna when he arrived. And also huge lies that have been told to each other for years. All of the staff members, I assure you all those who met and talked to us, were convinced of the SF-23 project would be very good”.
“The second hypothesis is the total lack of data correlation, which can be serious because it means that even if you start doing something else now on the computer you are terrified that there is no correlation. Then there is a third idea, namely that Ferrari still hasn’t figured out how to get the most out of this SF-23 car in the race” – the Sky Italia commentator added.

“Well, the hope is that this period, especially the month that will lead to the break between Melbourne and Baku, will allow Ferrari to understand what the potential of this car is and how far it can go. But above all, decide if it is the case to put all energy on this car or whether to starting making a new one based on the Red Bull philosophy, to try to beat Red Bull itself. I hope Maranello knows if this project is doomed from the start,” concluded the journalist.
