F1 Canadian Grand Prix weather forecast: rain could threaten the Montreal weekend
Formula 1 is preparing for the fifth round of the 2026 season at the iconic Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with weather conditions once again potentially playing a major role in the outcome of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
Following the long break marked by the Nürburgring 24 Hours, the Formula 1 paddock returns to action for what could become a crucial race in a championship that has so far been dominated by Mercedes under the new technical regulations.
Montreal has long been associated with unpredictable conditions, and the Canadian circuit has delivered several chaotic rain-affected races over the years. The most famous remains the unforgettable 2011 edition, which still holds the record as the longest Formula 1 race in history.
For the 2026 weekend, current forecasts suggest Friday should remain dry, with mixed skies and temperatures around 21°C during Free Practice 1 and Sprint Qualifying.
Saturday could bring a slightly higher rain risk, with thicker cloud cover and an estimated 15% chance of precipitation.
The biggest concern, however, may arrive on Sunday. Possible morning showers are currently forecast, with unstable conditions potentially continuing into the afternoon. Rain probability currently sits at around 30%, although no extreme weather scenarios like those recently seen in Miami are expected at this stage.
If conditions do deteriorate, tyre strategy, safety car timing, and qualifying setup compromises could become decisive factors in shaping the Canadian Grand Prix result.
